Animism is the core to all major religions and indigenous tribal beliefs. The majority of the worlds Animists are not aware of such a religion nor subscribe to be, they are living life as they and their ancestors have have for tens of thousands of years.
The homogenization of culture is almost complete, as globalization spreads and more ancestral lands are lost due to the increasing need for resources, we are left with a cultural vacum that abandons ancient traditional solutions in favor of modern inovations. As we look to nature through methods such as biomimicry to find solutions to perplexing engineering problems, we should look to the technologies of tribal indigenous peoples to find ways we could live more sustainably.
Those technologies seem more magical then material and centered in the view that an immaterial force animates the universe, the attribution of conscious life to nature, there are things beyond our normal perception. As animists we are recognizing the interconnectedness of life and learning from nature the lessons of organizing and spirituality. The force that animates the universe is alive and able to be channeled into acts of power by those who develop the ability to use it.
